BASIC HEALTH CLASSES
Ohio's child care licensing requires all early childhood professionals to take the following classes. These classes are not approved as "specialized training", because they are entry-level health classes. Certification for most classes is valid for 3 years. If you have previously taken a 6 hour class, it will expire after 3 years, and then a 3 hour review may be taken. (CPR is valid for 2 years.)

Step Up To Quality
Step Up To Quality is a voluntary Three-Star Quality Rating System that recognizes and promotes early care and education programs that meet quality benchmarks over and above minimum health and safety licensing standards. The steps are based on national research identifying the key benchmarks that lead to improved outcomes for children. These benchmarks include low child to staff ratios, group size, accreditation, staff education, specialized training, improved workplace characteristics and early learning standards.
